TMP desktop application
Helping doctors view and record their training journey milestones
BACKGROUND
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is a non-profit organization that trains surgeons and maintains surgical standards in Australia and New Zealand. The Training Management Platform (TMP) application helps doctors training to be surgeons (Trainees) view and record their training journey milestones. It also helps the Trainee supervisors to keep a track of Trainee records and help the Trainees along their journey.
MY ROLE
-
I conducted user interviews (both internal and external) to understand the requirements.
-
owned the design process to create intuitive layouts, interactions, and transitions
-
created wireframes and medium-fidelity prototypes
PROBLEM
The paper-based legacy system demanded a lot of human effort in terms of both time and energy proving inefficient. The Trainees had to manually fill in assessment forms and get them attested by their supervisors. It was a tedious process for the specialty training boards as well to keep a track of all the Trainee records and progress.
Since it was a paper-based system, no log could be maintained for the assessments undertaken by the Trainees.
SOLUTION
The solution was designing and developing an application that:
-
enable Trainees and supervisors to track progress
-
enable the specialty training boards to view the Trainee records
-
let Trainee's enter and edit their activities
-
enable RACS to make curriculum changes

THE PROCESS
01 RESEARCH
INTERVIEWS
Conducted user research through 1 - 1 interviews and focus groups to gather key insights to drive UI designs
02 DESIGN
MEDIUM FIDELITY PROTOTYPES
KEY TAKEAWAY
-
Looking at the bigger picture. It is okay to not have a perfect-looking UI in the first attempt. Building on the design is more important.
